Privacy Policy

In short: Eugene's Archives does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. The entire library is bundled inside the app and works offline. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no ad network, no account system, no cloud sync, no telemetry of any kind. The only network interaction is with Google Play Billing, used solely for the optional tip jar.

1. What we do NOT do

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

Your name, email, phone number, or any identifier
Your IP address, device ID, advertising ID, or location
What you read in the app, when, or for how long
Any usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioural telemetry
Anything else

The app does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking libraries.

2. What we do do

2.1. Local storage

The app stores on your device:

The bundled library (text articles and stories, cover images, styles) — ~70 MB embedded in the APK at build time. Read-only.
A small preferences file containing:
- Your last-selected interface language (English / Russian / Vietnamese).
- Reading position within an article (so you return where you left off).
- A single boolean flag indicating whether you have ever made a successful tip-jar purchase (used to hide the tip-jar prompt on subsequent launches).

This data stays on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

2.2. Tip jar (in-app purchases)

The app contains an optional "tip jar" — a one-time pop-up at launch with five tip amounts ($1, $5, $10, $15, $20). All purchases are processed exclusively through Google Play Billing.

When you tap a tip amount:

The app asks Google Play Billing to start a purchase flow.
Google Play processes the transaction and returns a result.
If successful, the app marks the local "ever tipped" flag as true and never shows the prompt again on your account.

We do not see or store your payment method, card number, name, email, billing address, or any other personal data associated with the purchase. We only see anonymous aggregated reports in Google Play Console (total revenue, number of transactions per region) — no individual buyer is identifiable from these reports.

Google Play's handling of your payment data is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

2.3. Restore-purchases on a new device

When you install Eugene's Archives on a new device under the same Google account, the app queries BillingClient.queryPurchasesAsync(INAPP) once on startup. If a historic tip-jar purchase exists, the prompt is suppressed. This query is made directly between your device and Google Play servers — we are not involved in it and do not receive its result.

3. Permissions

The app requests one permission:

com.android.vending.BILLING — required by Google Play Billing for the tip-jar flow. Without this permission, tip-jar buttons would not work, but the rest of the app would function normally.

The app does not request: internet access (other than via Google Play Billing's own connection), storage, camera, microphone, contacts, location, phone state, or any other sensitive permission.

4. Children

The app is rated for general audiences (literary content with thematic references to adult topics — war, mortality, philosophy — but no graphic content). The app does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

5. Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this same URL with an updated "Effective date" at the top.
